This year Durrow have combined with Ballinamere and have been competing in the Division 1 football. They had an impressive run of victories against Clara BNS, Portarlington BNS and Scoil Eoin Phoil. These victories placed them 2nd in the group just behind Edenderry BNS. They will now play Edenderry in the county final on Saturday the 12th of November in O’Connor Park at 2.45.  It would be great to see as many families as possible out to support the boys!

Durrow v Scoil Bhride

The boys played Scoil Bhride on Friday the 23rd of September in Durrow pitch. After their defeat against Ballinamere, Durrow were eager to get a win behind them.

The game started off as a tough physical battle but Durrow showed their experience and soon got on top. The game finished 8-8 to 1-3 in favour of Durrow.

Durrow v Rhode parish

The Durrow team knew this was going to be a difficult match for a number of reasons. Rhode parish is made up of 3 schools, this was Rhode’s first time in Division 2 and it was an away match. This was also a must win for Durrow if they wanted any chance of reaching the final.

Durrow got stuck into the match straight away and put pressure on the Rhode defense. At half time Durrow were up 2-5 to 0-5.  The 2nd half was an exciting and close contest with both teams scoring some great points. At the end of the match there was only a kick of a ball between the teams with Rhode coming out on top with the score 3-11 to 4-9. Unfortunately this leaves Durrow needing a miracle if they want to reach the final.

Despite the result, it was a great display from the Durrow team. Both Mr Kelly and Mr Larkin was very impressed at the lads attitude and work rate.

Next week Durrow will be playing Mucklagh. BEST OF LUCK LADS!!

After an impressive season last year the boys were eager to get back playing football and try repeat their 2010 success. Their first game was against Ballinamere and after losing the final to Durrow last year, Ballinamere were eager to get the upper hand this year. It was a tough match and with excellent leadership from the 6th class pupils Durrow never gave up despite Ballinamere gaining an early lead. Unfortunately the Durrow boys never managed to get the upper hand in the match and Ballinamere came out with a victory of 4-10 to 2-5.

The boys will play Scoil Bhride on Thursday the 22nd in Durrow. Lets hope they can build upon the first match.

On the sixth of November the boys from fourth, fifth, and sixth class in our school took part in the B division County final. It was a cold and wet day in O’Connor Park. We played Ballinamere.

We were beating them well in the first half but they came back at us in the second half. We started getting  a lot of  scores towards the end of the match. When the match was over we were very happy.

It was the first time in ten years that Durrow school has won the cup. Our coaches Mr. Kelly and Mr.Larkin are very proud of us.

When we went into the dressing rooms after the match we got sweets and drinks. The following day,  we brought the trophy around to all the classes in  school.

The boys football continued their winning streak beating Killeigh 13-6 to 3-1. The boys made a great start to the match scoring 3-1 within 5 mins. Killeigh made a strong effort to come back in the second half but the maturity of the 6th boys helped hold the team together. Next week they will face Daingain National School who beat the boys narrowly last year.
