Second Class were studying various birds during the month of April. They sketched the Eagle in flight and also completed close up drawings of the Eagle’s head and eyes .

The construction of our sports hall, classroom and resource room is well and truly underway. We have diggers working throughout the day and we even have some of the staff members helping out.

As part of World Book Day the children in first class were learning about the Irish legend ‘The Wicked Fairy of Tara’. The children illustrated the pictures to go with the story and then they narrated it. They did a fantastic job!!!

School Self Evaluation has become an integral part of school development. We have devised a School Improvement Plan to help us identify our strengths and weakness. By devising this plan we hope to improve how our students can perform in the areas of literacy and numeracy.

As you know we are aiming to improve the standard of spelling in our school. The reason is that our children, while performing way above the national average in reading, comprehension and general literacy, don’t reach these very high standards in spelling. We are looking at the way we teach and learn spelling and are making a concerted effort to raise the overall standard.

My contribution as Principal is to give monthly spelling tests taking the most difficult words from the two spelling programmes the classes use ( 3rd to 6th). ( Results with teachers)

Stay Safe Programme.

During January, we will all be learning Personal Safety skills. All classes will participate in the Stay Safe Programme.


Kilbeggan Open Night

Takes place 7:30pm                                                                Thursday 29th January. All 6th class and parents are welcome to this event.

1st class poetry competition 

Well done to all of 1st who participated in the poetry competition. The winners Joe Clavin, Darragh Galvin Dunne, Daniel Mealiffe and Conor Pidgeon.
